One of the many highlights of this past weekend, Tabor Dormsgiving began promptly on Saturday night at 8 p.m. A multi-part event, there were tacos in Lillard, the classic movie Elf playing in Williams, and a firepit with pizza rolls and s’mores outside of Makepeace. Throughout the campus, the variety of weekend actives gave student the freedom to spend their weekend however they wanted, whether it meant cozying up with friends indoors or risking the cold night for s’mores and pizza rolls.
Outside of Makepeace, the firepit quickly became one of the most popular stops of the night. Students gathered in groups around the warm glow, hands wrapped around skewers as marshmallows toasted over the flames. The scent of smoke mixed with melting chocolate and toasted graham crackers as s’mores were assembled, often a little messy but always worth it. Pizza rolls were passed around steadily, disappearing almost as fast as they were set out. Despite the cold, students lingered, drawn in by the warmth of both the fire and the crowd surrounding it.
What made the Makepeace portion of Dormsgiving especially memorable was the atmosphere it created. Laughter echoed across the quad as friends rotated in and out of the circle, some staying briefly to grab a snack while others remained for long conversations under the night sky. Students from different dorms mixed easily, many saying the outdoor setting made the night feel more relaxed and open. Even those who had planned to stop by for only a few minutes often found themselves staying much longer than expected.
Overall, Dormsgiving served as a welcome pause from schoolwork and a reminder of the strong sense of community at Tabor. By offering multiple ways to participate, the event brought together students from different dorms and grade levels in one shared celebration. As the night wound down, students headed back to their dorms full, tired, and already talking about next year’s Dormsgiving.
