In one of the first home matches of the season, Tabor’s boys’ varsity and JV squash teams started strong, sweeping visiting Dexter Southfield and winning every match across both levels.
From the beginning, Tabor played with strong rhythms, tactics, and pressure on the ball. Varsity players controlled the pace of their rallies, forcing errors from Dexter and capitalizing on loose shots. JV with the same energy, closed out their matches quickly and powerfully, showing the depth of the squad early in the season.
The most dramatic moment of the day came in a boys’ varsity matchup between Allen Zheng and Dexter’s Nicholas Dowd. Allen fell behind at first, dropping the first two games as Nicholas dominated the center of the court. Down 0-2, Allen faced the possibility of a straight game loss. Between games, teammates Michael Huang and Eagle Pei, along with Coach Moronta, gathered around Allen on the bench, offering encouragement, quick tactical reminders, and a calm presence to help him reset. Buoyed by their backing, he adjusted his strategy, tightened his shot, and began extending rallies, slowly turning the momentum.
Point by point, Allen climbed back into the match, pressing on the third and fourth games to force a deciding fifth. By then, the crowd was fully locked in on court 3, with teammates and spectators cheering each rally. In the final game, Allen’s perseverance and composure kept Nicholas moving into the corners and closed out the comeback to win 3–2.
The team now faces a quick turnaround with a back-to-back match on Saturday, traveling to Pomfret School. The sweep against Dexter Southfield gives Tabor Squash strong momentum heading into the winter. Best of luck to Seawolves squash at Pomfret and throughout the rest of the winter season.
