On a recent night out in Boston’s South End, my friend and I ended up at Gigi- a spot that manages to stand out in a city packed with Italian restaurants. The space feels intimate and warm, with dim lighting and a buzz that makes it lively without being overwhelming- perfect for a long, relaxed dinner. It’s the kind of place you go with your girlfriends on a Saturday.
Food wise, we started with the arancini and bruschetta. The arancini were crispy with a smoky tomato sauce (it was addictive), and the bruschetta was typical, with fresh tomatoes and basil. You can’t go wrong. For my main, I had the rigatoni alla vodka, which was a great mix of creamy and tangy. My friend got the bucatini carbonara, which was super good as well. We both lean toward pasta when it comes to Italian.
The service was friendly, portions were generous, and the pace was relaxed. Unlike more traditional red-sauce Italian restaurants in Boston, Gigi feels a bit more modern and elevated while still being approachable. Overall, Gigi is a great spot for good Italian with an elevated vibe.
