The Tabor Academy Applied Music recital on November 5 was an impressive showcase of talent, dedication, and musical passion. Held in the intimate setting in the chapel, the event featured student musicians who perform pieces ranging from classical to contemporary. As each performer took the stage, their peers encouraged them with applause. For many, the recital marked a milestone in their musical journey.
One of the standout performances of the evening was Alan Ji’s rendition of “Maple Leaf Ragtime.” His fingers danced across the keys with precision and enthusiasm, breathing new life into Scott Joplin’s classic ragtime tune. Later, Alan teamed up with Benji Kuo’25 for a duet of the main theme from the movie Ladies in Lavender, a piece that beautifully contrasted the solo energy of his previous performance. Together, they created a hauntingly melodic experience, blending their talents into a beautiful harmony.
Reflecting on his experience, Alan said, “Collaborating with Benji was really special. There’s a unique energy that comes from creating music together.”
The night concluded with a standing ovation for the performers and faculty who guided them, reminding everyone present of the transformative power of music.
