The Holiday Brunch is an annual food event at Tabor Academy. The community came together on December 14, the weekend before Winter Break. This brunch is special because it includes holiday foods, such as pastries, ham, bacon, waffles, pancakes, and eggs. This brunch is an opportunity for dorm communities to enjoy a special meal together. To add to the atmosphere, the dining hall is decorated with festive decor and there is a holiday movie plays on the big screen.
Mr. Tim Mahon, Director of Food services said that the planning of the “decorations start a couple of weeks in advance.”
Mr. Mahon said, “We begin cutting and chopping vegetables such as potatoes two days before the event and the kitchen staff will begin work at 4:30 in the morning the day of the brunch.” While the specialty pastries are from a local bakery, most of the other food is made right here on campus. The dining orders 6-8 cases of bacon as well as 20 30-pound cases of fruit, all of which they cut in house. Over 20 staff members and 8 chefs worked to ensure that we would enjoy apple-smoked bacon, bone and spiral hams, and hundreds of servings of eggs benedict. Even the drinks were festive: egg nog, hot chocolate, and mock mimosas.
The entire Tabor community appreciates everything the dining hall staff does for our school meals, and we cannot thank them enough!
