The senior class traveled to Hale Education in Norfolk County, Massachusetts last Sunday where they were involved in a multitude of leadership and team building activities. Although the poor weather, spirits grew as each activity was accomplished. The seniors improved their teamwork skills and broadened their relationships throughout the grade, resulting in an overall beneficial experience, despite the rain.
When they arrived, they were divided into small groups and sent straight to various activities. One notable exercise was a team-building activity that involved lining up pipes and sending a ping-pong ball through the chain without falling off, which required communication, patience, and collaboration.
The class shared a pizza lunch together before retreating into the rain again for the afternoon session, which was a bit more eventful than the morning. “That was my favorite part of the day” said Nathan Wu ‘26. For many, the ropes course was the day’s climax point even though it was a lot more intense than students originally thought. One of the most daunting challenges was climbing a 45-foot telephone pole and jumping off the top, placing trust in only the harness and rope students were attached to. One senior noted that it was terrifying at the top of the pole, but jumping off was definitely worth it.
Despite some of the ropes courses being intimidating, the students were generally satisfied with the day and skills they learned at Hale. The bad weather increased the level of unity among the students because they were in it together. The blend of physically oriented challenges and problem-solving activities provided students with strengthened relationships, teamwork, and good memories.
When the day was finished, the seniors left Hale not only soaked from the rain, but also with a feeling of togetherness and accomplishment— things that would remain in conversations well through the remainder of the school year and beyond.
