On Monday October 7, five students and four adults from Tabor Academy participated in the Future Foods Institute Workshop at The Masters School in Dobbs Ferry, NY. This workshop focuses on exploring innovations to improve global food insecurity, a crucial issue in today’s world. The Tabor student group is led by Mohamed Mohamed ’25, Chloe Nash ’25, and Quinn Weggler ’25, who are all leaders of the Food Waste Warriors club and members of the 2024 Global Ideas Institute where, in the spring of last year, they presented their research on food waste at the University of Toronto.
“It was an early wake up but worth it.” said Quinn Weggler ‘25 after the conference. The workshop entailed activities where different schools collaborated to find solutions to global problems. It was not only a learning experience, but also a bonding opportunity with other students who shared similar opinions on food security.
The Future Food Institute, founded with the mission to make positive change, is committed to improving life on earth by addressing the challenges within global food systems through education and innovation. The Institute works to make progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by training the next generation of change-makers to engage both government and industrial initiatives. Tabor Academy’s involvement in the workshop reflects its commitment to caring for the Earth and empowering students to become leaders in the fight against food insecurity.
“Most of all, the experience inspired me to continue to make a difference and inform the world about food sustainability,” concluded Quinn.
